Now we head to the castle where one of the most known battles of the WWI happened. This castle was originally built by Mamluk Sultanate and was used as a travelers’ inn, receiving pilgrims on their way to Mecca. Next to the castle is the archeological museum, which was a palace for Hashemite dynasty founder Hussein bin Ali at first. The museum contains a collection of Bronze-Age artifacts of 4000 BC, as well as a collection of medieval artifacts from the 7th to the early 12th century, including Fatmid coins and a large inscription of a Quranic verse that once hung above Aqaba’s eastern gate.
Sherif al-Hussein bin Ali Mosque is a must-see while you’re in Aqaba city. You don’t want to miss the
beautiful architecture that was built in 1975 and renovated in 2011. The mosque is distinguished by its
white stones, ancient minaret, and valuable arches.
After that, we head to Ayla ruins; the city that didn’t survive. It is considered one of the earliest Islamic
cities to be constructed outside the Arabic peninsula. Nearby are the ruins of an ancient church, which is thought to be the oldest in the world
