Overview

Aqaba is the only coastal city in Jordanand it is known for its stunning marine life on the Red Sea. Due toits strategic location, it’s been inhabited since 4000 BC. Besides being a port city, Aqaba has taken manyroles during the different historical eras; it was a fishing village during theOttoman’s reign, and thenafter the Arab revolt in WWI it was reinstated as a dashing harbor.

However, Aqaba’s touristic sites doesn’t only include the beach and the related activities but also:

7:00 – 8:00 Meeting and introduction

You will meet our driver at the hotel lobby between 7 a.m–8 a.m(your exact timing will be provided by
the support team, one day before the tour) after the entail greetings, you start your journey toward
Aqaba about 2:00hrs drive.

10:00 - 13:00 Red sea

The Red Sea is famous for its beautiful coral reef and amazing warm water. You can go snorkeling,
diving, or swimming. You can also sit at the beach and wait to get a stunning tan. There are also yacht
cruises, Jet Ski rides, glass boats, and all sorts of other water sports activities. In brief, you will experience an amazing time at Aqaba’s sunny beaches

13:30 - 15:30 Mamluk fort and archeological museum

Now we head to the castle where one of the most known battles of the WWI happened. This castle was originally built by Mamluk Sultanate and was used as a travelers’ inn, receiving pilgrims on their way to Mecca. Next to the castle is the archeological museum, which was a palace for Hashemite dynasty founder Hussein bin Ali at first. The museum contains a collection of Bronze-Age artifacts of 4000 BC, as well as a collection of medieval artifacts from the 7th to the early 12th century, including Fatmid coins and a large inscription of a Quranic verse that once hung above Aqaba’s eastern gate.

15:30 - 17:00 sherif mosque and Ayla ruin

Sherif al-Hussein bin Ali Mosque is a must-see while you’re in Aqaba city. You don’t want to miss the
beautiful architecture that was built in 1975 and renovated in 2011. The mosque is distinguished by its
white stones, ancient minaret, and valuable arches.

After that, we head to Ayla ruins; the city that didn’t survive. It is considered one of the earliest Islamic
cities to be constructed outside the Arabic peninsula. Nearby are the ruins of an ancient church, which is thought to be the oldest in the world

17:00 - 19:00 Return to Petr a

After a day exploring Aqaba, time to return back to Petra, the drive once again will be around 2:00hrs
